Mourners gathered to attend the funeral of Barnbrack singer Eoin McMahon as he was laid to rest on Tuesday morning.
Mr McMahon, who had been a member of beloved Belfast folk band Barnbrack, passed away peacefully on December 27.
His funeral service took place on Tuesday at Holy Trinity Church in the west of city, where he was from.
Friends and family attended the service and were joined by members of St. John’s GAA Club, who performed a guard on honour while dressed in club jerseys.
Following his passing, the GAA club paid tribute to the Barnbrack singer, calling him an “esteemed member”.
Entertainer John Linehan, known for performing as character May McFettridge, and former Barnbrack bandmate Jimmy McPeake were also seen attending the service.
The group, which also included Alex Quinn, found fame following the release of their first album ‘Irish Pub Sing-a-Long’ in 1983.
At the time, Mr McMahon had said the band was “delighted” with the success of the record.
A funeral notice said that Eoin would be “be fondly remembered and missed by his fellow band members”.
News of the singer’s death on Friday was met with a number of tributes.
Sinn Féin councillor Micheal Donnelly called him a “legend of a singer who was known the length and breath of this country and beyond”.
“The community of west Belfast, but especially the upper Springfield, will be devastated at the news of Eoins death,” he said.
Mr McMahon is survived by his wife, Liz, their children, Eilíse and Martin, and their wider family.
