TWO masked men are being linked to an overnight arson attack in Newtownards which destroyed two vehicles.

Police were alerted around 10.10pm on Wednesday that several vehicles were on fire in the Manse Close area, close to Carrowdore.

A police spokesperson said: “It was confirmed that an accelerant had been poured over two vehicles before they were set alight.

“The vehicles were parked close to a property, and it’s extremely fortunate that our Fire Service colleagues were able to attend quickly enough to extinguish the blaze before the home, which had residents inside at the time, also caught fire.”

They added: “Our enquiries have identified a red Peugeot 307, driven by two masked men dressed in blue overalls, as being involved.
