THE PSNI has formally offered assistance to Spanish police to find the missing Belfast man, John George.

The 37-year-old disappeared in the Alicante region before Christmas, with his family claiming he was lured to his death and murdered.

On Friday, Guardia Civil told the Irish News they were still treating the case as a missing person investigation.

“Since then, all the agents have been carrying out location work, but they have not been able to provide more information so far,” a spokesperson said.

An update from the PSNI on Friday evening said they would continue to liaise closely with Mr George’s family and other law enforcement agencies.

“While the investigation must be progressed by Spanish police, the Police Service of Northern Ireland have made an offer of assistance to police in Spain and will assist with any local enquiries as requested by them,” a spokesperson said.

It is understood any activity from the PSNI will be limited to Northern Ireland.

“We would ask anyone who believes they may have information which could assist the Spanish Investigation Team with their investigation to contact us on 101.

“Any photographs or footage, including CCTV, mobile phone or dash cam footage, can be shared with the Police Service of Northern Ireland through the Major Incident Public Portal.

Information can also be passed on via the PSNI’s online reporting form or anonymously to Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.

Around 50 family members and friends of Mr George are currently in Spain, and this week have also been assisted by the K9 Search & Rescue team from Northern Ireland.

The team of seven workers and a sniffing dog have so far spent three days hoping for a breakthrough.
