The death of a Portrush man in a crash over the weekend has been described as ‘absolutely heart-breaking.’
Jamie Mitchell (24) died on Saturday morning, after being struck by a car in the Dunhill Road area of Coleraine.
A Sinn Féin councillor for the area has expressed her condolences to the family of Mr Mitchell.
Niamh Archibald told The Irish News: “It is absolutely heart-breaking news to learn of the tragic death of Jamie Mitchell.
“My immediate thoughts and prayers are with his family and friends at this very sad and difficult time.”
The Coleraine councillor thanked emergency responders who attended the scene after the incident, before Mr Mitchel sadly died at the scene.
In a statement, the PSNI said officers were called to reports of a crash involving a car and a pedestrian in the Dunhill Road area in the early hours of Saturday morning.
They are appealing for witnesses.
