Irish subtitles will be available for viewers of the House of Guinness, the first time Netflix has added the language for any of its titles.
The House of Guinness tells the story of the wealthy and powerful Guinness and the brewery business it controlled for over five generations. It was created by Steven Knight, who brought Peaky Blinders to the screen.
Netflix decided that because the story is “deeply rooted in Irish history” it would add the Irish language subtitles. It is on Netflix from Thursday evening.

Mr Knight said: “I’m really pleased that House of Guinness is coming to audiences with Irish subtitles.
“The Irish language is such a vital part of the country’s culture and identity, and making the series accessible in this way allows us to celebrate that heritage and reach those viewers who prefer to watch As Gaelige,”
The global streaming service claimed the addition of Irish subtitles “is part of Netflix’s ongoing commitment to Irish members and the country’s creative sector”.
“Some of Netflix’s most popular productions, including the global hit Wednesday, Vikings: Valhalla and the upcoming series, Grown Ups, were filmed extensively in Ireland,” the company added.
