Staff at a west Donegal hotel and restaurant got to rub shoulders with movie royalty when Hollywood A lister Bill Murray dropped in for a bite to eat at the weekend.

The Ghostbusters star and friends arrived at the Caisleáin Óir hotel in Annagry for dinner while enjoying a holiday in the west Donegal area.

One of the biggest names in Hollywood, Murray has starred in a series of movie blockbusters, including Groundhog Day, Caddyshack and more recently, The Monuments Men. He is best known for his performances in Ghostbusters and Ghostbusers Two.

An accomplished actor and comedian, he is particularly famous for his deadpan delivery. In 2016, he won the Mark Twain Prize for American Humour.

On Saturday night word spread quickly that the movie star was in town.

When Murray heard the staff were fans he was happy to pose for photographs, sign autographs and even visited the kitchen in Caisleáin Óir to thank them for his meal.

Staff were delighted with the visit and posted pictures on the hotel’s Facebook page.

A spokesperson said: “What a gentleman. We had the privilege of having Billy Murray in for dinner and he popped into thank and meet our entire kitchen crew.

“Thank you Bill.”

The weekend visit was not the first time the Ghostbusters star has visited Co Donegal as he previously filmed a golf documentary in the county.
