A funeral is to take place for a Co Fermanagh man who died following a workplace accident in Donegal.
Gerry Keown, from the Belleek area, died following an incident at premises in the Lisahully area of Ballyshannon last Wednesday.
Mr Keown, who was in his 60s, was pronounced dead at the scene upon the arrival of emergency services.
An investigation into the incident was launched by the Republic’s Health and Safety Authority, and a file was prepared for the Coroner’s Court.
Mr Keown had previously worked for over two decades at the Mill Park hotel in Donegal town.
In a tribute posted to social media, a spokesperson said staff learned of his death with “shock and great sadness”.
“Gerry was a valued member of our maintenance team from September 2002 until his retirement in September 2024,” a spokesperson said.
“During this time, he was not only dedicated to keeping our hotel running smoothly but also brought kindness, hard work, and a warm spirit to every day.
“His presence, humour, and willingness to lend a helping hand will never be forgotten.”
Friends and former colleagues added tributes, including Mary Byrne, who said he was “one of the nicest people you could ever meet”.
Chris Montgomery wrote: “A true gentleman, an absolute pleasure to have worked with such a wonderful man. Condolences to his family.”
A death notice describes Mr Keown as “forever loved and sadly missed by his beloved wife Marie and dear son Jason, loving sister Mary and Tony, dear brother Patrick and Breege, family circle and his cherished friends”.
A funeral will take place on Monday at St. John the Baptist Church, Toura, before burial in the adjoining cemetery.
