An octogenarian was remanded into custody today (tues) accused of murder.

Standing in the dock of Newtownards Magistrates Court, 85-year-old Jim Moore confirmed he understood the single charge against him.

Moore, from Clandeboye Place in Bangor, faces a single charge alleging that he murdered Patricia Aust on 2 June this year.

The body of 81-year-old "Patsy" Aust, a retired teacher, was found dead at a house in Hawthorne Court in the County Down city on Sunday after police received a report of a death of a woman at about 5.30 pm on 2 June and when they arrived, officers found her body in the living room.

Giving evidence to the court Det. Insp. Campbell said he was aware of the facts and circumstances of the offence and he believed he could connect Moore to the charge.

Defence solicitor Dermot Bowes confirmed he was not applying for bail on behalf of Moore at this stage so the prosecuting lawyer asked for the case to be adjourned to the videolink list.

Remanding Moore into custody, District Judge Francis Rafferty put the case back to 26 June.
