A man whose car was damaged after a brick was thrown through the rear passenger window in Co Antrim has said he is ‘extremely thankful’ his two-year-old son was not in the car seat during the incident.
Police said ‘extensive damage’ had been caused to a car in Cullybackey on Sunday afternoon, though nobody had been injured.
Two young men were seen fleeing the scene but were not located by officers.
Photos shared by the owner of the car, Andrew Ross, show that a baby seat was located beside the window which was smashed.
“I am extremely thankful my two-year-old son was not in his car seat when this happened as he could have been badly injured or worse, which doesn’t bear thinking about,” he said.
A police spokesperson said: “The brick was thrown through the rear passenger window of the vehicle near a building site at approximately 4.45pm – causing extensive damage.”
“Thankfully, no injuries were reported.
”Two young people were observed running from the site in the direction of Main Street towards Tobar Park.
”Patrols of the immediate area were conducted by police – however the suspects were not located. We are following lines of enquiry and will be continuing with routine patrols of the area.”
TUV MLA Timothy Gaston said he was “thankful the young child wasn’t in the car” but added that the incident “shouldn’t have happened in the first place”.
“As parents with young children who regularly drive through Cullybackey we’re horrified to read what happened last night,” he said.
“This type of behaviour isn’t reflective of the good people of Cullybackey who have worked so hard to make Cullybackey a village we all can be proud of and is known for its community work and spirit.”
