Demolition work has begun at one of Belfast’s most popular nightlife venues ahead of construction work on a new student apartment block.
Workmen moved in to raze most of Filthy McNasty’s and its sister cocktail lounge Liquor XXX to the ground on Thursday morning.
The Dublin Road venue closed for the final time on New Year’s Eve.
The building had previously housed the Dempsey’s International pub before it closed in 2007 following a fire, with Filthy McNasty’s opening two years later and becoming a popular spot for students.
Planning permission was granted in December 2023 for an 11-storey student accommodation block at the site that will comprise 201 units.
The developer behind the new student block is FMN Properties Ltd.
The company and Filthy McNasty’s parent company Bachus Group are both ultimately owned by former Co Tyrone pharmacist Peter Dolan.
