“As many of you may have seen this morning on social media, the roof of Bangor Aurora has suffered significant damage from Storm Éowyn,” she said.

“With large amounts of insulation and debris appearing to have fallen, it is important that the site is secured as soon as possible.

“We won’t know the full extent of the damage until after the storm and I would appeal to members of the public to avoid the area for their safety.

“I have raised this with the Chief Executive of Ards and North Down Borough Council and will continue to engage with them to understand timelines for clean up, repairs and to understand what preventative steps will be taken to protect the site in future.”

Amber wind warnings are also in place for Northern Ireland until 9pm on Friday.

Winds reaching 60 to 70mph will be widespread with up to 90mph possible on coastal areas.
