Danske Bank said the early closure was a 'precautionary measure'

A bank in Belfast city centre closed early on Wednesday amid concerns for the “welfare of our colleagues” after reports of potential anti-immigration protests.

Danske Bank said the early closure of its Donegall Square West branch on Wednesday was a “precautionary measure”.

It also advised staff in their head office branch to work from home.

It comes amid reports of further anti-immigration and counter protests set to take place in the city.

A spokesperson for the bank said: “In light of information about potential protests in and around the city centre this evening, we made the decision to close our Donegall Square West branch early and to allow colleagues in head office to work from home this afternoon if they wished to.

“This was a precautionary measure in the event of potential travel disruption, as the welfare of our colleagues is our highest priority.”
