The PSNI has arrested a man in his 50s on suspicion of attempted murder after a man was assaulted with a metal grate outside a pub in Co Tyrone.
The victim, who was also aged in his 50s, was taken to hospital with serious injuries following the incident in Ballygawley on Boxing night.
The injuries are not believed to be life threatening at this time.
The other man, aged 50, remains in police custody following the incident, which took place on Main Street in the town shortly before 7pm.
The alleged assault is reported to have taken place outside the Tailor’s House in Ballygawley, with the bar having to shut its doors on Boxing night to facilitate the PSNI investigation.
“Due to an unforeseen incident which happened on the main street outside our premises, we have had to close the bar with immediate effect,” the bar posted on social media late on Thursday night.
“The individuals involved were not patrons of our premises.
“However, given the location of the incident, the PSNI have requested closure of The Tailors House to help with their investigations. We hope to be open for business as normal from tomorrow morning.”
