A mechanical fault on an Aer Lingus plane, has caused a flight from Italy to Dublin to be diverted to Shannon Airport.

The pilots on the plane noticed a potential mechanical issue had developed with the aircraft, during the Saturday morning flight.

Emergency services were on standby at Shannon as the plane landed.

As a result of the fault, the plane was unable to move itself, as a result, it was towed to its stand.

It has been grounded at Shannon awaiting further checks.

Passengers who were onboard the plane at the time of the emergency landing, will be transferred to Dublin.
