A star-studded line-up of sporting personalities has been confirmed so far for this year’s Hurling for Cancer Research charity game.

Founded by horse racing legends Jim Bolger and Davy Russell, the annual charity event has attracted some of its biggest-ever stars this year.

These include Kerry star Paudie Clifford; Kilkenny legend TJ Reid; Aintree Grand National-winning jockey Rachael Blackmore; Con O’Callaghan and Ciarán Kilkenny from the record-breaking Dublin team - along with GAA pundits Ursula Jacob and Cora Staunton.

The game will take place on August 12 and is being held at Netwatch Cullen Park in Carlow, as it was last year.

Hurling for Cancer Research founder and Racehorse Trainer Jim Bolger said: “Once again, we have unbelievable support from so many racing, hurling and football, and leading sports personalities for the 2024 renewal of Hurling for Cancer Research.

“It has become a very competitive game, which is a testament to everyone who has supported the match over the years, on and off the pitch.”

“I’m looking forward to seeing a bumper crowd on Monday, August 12 for a cause that I know is close to a lot of people’s hearts.”

Since its inception in 2011, Hurling for Cancer Research has raised €1.5 million. This money all goes towards providing hope for cancer patients, by funding groundbreaking cancer research and cancer trials across Ireland.

Speaking about the difference these funds make, Irish Cancer Society CEO Averil Power said:

“Hurling for Cancer Research is a highlight in the Irish Cancer Society’s events calendar.

“Every year we are blown away by the star-studded line-up brought together by Jim and Davy

“As the largest voluntary funder of cancer research in Ireland, we rely on events like Hurling for Cancer Research to bring us closer to the day when nobody dies from cancer in Ireland.”

Tickets for the event can be purchased at www.hurlingforcancer.ie and cost €10 for an individual and €20 for a family ticket, which covers two adults and up to three children under 15.

All funds from the sale of tickets and donations go directly towards funding vital cancer research.
