DONEGAL’s star back Peadar Mogan has been recognized for his display for Jim McGuinness’s side in June with a second consecutive Player of the Month accolade.
The St Naul’s clubman also won ‘man of the match’ against Louth at Croke Park as his five points helped his side into an All-Ireland semi-final.
After also winning May’s Player of the Month award, Mogan has outperformed any defender in the country in Donegal’s run to the All-Ireland semi-finals this weekend, where they face Galway.
Tír Chonaill will hope to face either Kerry or Armagh, the latter of whom they have faced three times already this season.
Following this weekend’s Hurling semi-finals, Clare’s star this season, Shane O’Donnell has secured the Hurler of the Month award after impressing in The Bannermen’s historic win over Kilkenny to reach the All-Ireland hurling final in two weeks.
The real display of O’Donnell’s talent was two weeks prior to that win when he and his team were eager to book a place in the final four.
Clare bounced back with an impressive 12-point victory over Wexford. O’Donnell’s impressive solo goal along with four additional points turned the tide for the Banner County
This month he received his second PwC GAA/GPA Player of the Month award of the 2024 season.
Cork’s Katie Quirke played a key scoring role in two big wins for The Rebel County as they secured a home All-Ireland quarter-final berth.
She scored a goal and three points in a dominant 23-point win over Laois.
In the subsequent victory over Galway, there were just two points between the teams with Quirke adding 0-7 to her name against the Tribeswomen.
Quirke will look to continue her scoring form as she prepares for her team’s match against Waterford in the knock-out stages.
Aoife Prendergast put in a stellar captain’s performance with four points in the opening half as the Cats of Kilkenny eased to victory over Antrim by a scoreline of 6-15 to 0-9.
Following two convincing wins, Waterford proved to be a much tougher opponent but once again Prendergast stepped up with the crucial scores, this time to secure a draw.
She scored 2-5 in a 22-point win over Derry to confirm a spot in the knockouts, while a further five points against Tipperary would not be enough to avoid defeat as her team finished second in their group.
GAA President Jarlath Burns said: “It has been an incredible few weeks for Gaelic games across all of the championships, thanks in no small part to some stellar performances.
The month of June was illuminated by the displays of both Shane O’Donnell and Peadar Mogan as Clare and Donegal both thrived in strong provincial campaigns in hurling and football respectively.
Similarly, Katie Quirke and Aoife Prendergast shone for Cork and Kilkenny on the ladies football and camogie circuits.
Tom Parsons, former Mayo midfielder and GPA CEO said: “As we approach the business end of the inter-county season, picking an award like this becomes all the more impressive.
Outstanding individual performances contribute to a team making the closing stages of the championship and Aoife, Katie, Peadar and Shane have been key to how their respective teams have progressed this year.”
