Northern Switchgear Antrim SFC: Cargin Erin’s Own 2-20 v 0-05 St Mary’s Ahoghill
CARGIN took another step to regaining their Antrim SFC crown as they convincingly beat Ahoghill at the quarter-final stage.
On a cold, wet night in Portglenone, Erin’s Own put on a clinic for the fans in attendance as they ran out 21-point victors over St Mary’s.
Cargin laid their intentions out from the start a they netted a quick goal and point within five minutes of the throw-in.
From then on in, it went from bad to worse for Ahoghill as they managed just five points in the hour of football that was played.
Cargin never looked like slowing up as the first half went on and by half-time, the scoreline read 2-10 to 0-03 in favour of the reigning senior champions.
After the break, it was just more of the same, with Ahoghill starting the half off well with two scores inside the first six minutes but from then on in, they wouldn’t add another to the evergrowing scoreline.
Erin’s Own then started to gather speed as their free-scoring attack maintained control of the game and Ahoghill rarely got a sniff of a chance for the rest of the game.
By the end of the hour, the scoreline sat at 2-20 to 0-5 and it was a fair reflection of the gulf in class between the two opponents.
In the end, it was Cargin who would be the first team to make it through to the semi-final stage and prove their case for retaining the Antrim SFC title once more.
