Connacht’s two most successful sides will clash again in Division One of the National League this weekend in Castlebar.
The two sides come into this game with mixed fortunes, as Galway defeated Armagh at Salthill last Saturday in a repeat of last year’s All-Ireland final, with Mayo falling to recent rivals Dublin.
Galway seemed to adapt to the FRC’s new rule enhancements well as they took advantage of the new goalkeeper role and the two-point score.
Mayo surprisingly came close to their Dublin opponents, only losing by two points despite having a very different squad than they have in recent years.
Star forward Aidan O’Shea is not yet back in training, Cillian O’Connor has opted out of the panel this year, Eoghan McLaughlin and Tommy Conroy are not in the squad and the likes of Paddy Durcan are yet to return from injury.
With the backdrop of Castlebar, Mayo and Galway both have the potential to come out with a win with only time telling which of the Connacht superpowers will prevail.
