A recently unearthed Tina Turner song is being released two years on from the US singer’s death.
Hot For You Baby, which was written by Australian composing duo George Young and Harry Vanda and produced by John Carter, who worked with her on the Private Dancer album, was originally meant to be part of a record track.
The single is being put out as part of a 40th anniversary edition of Turner’s solo breakthrough album, Private Dancer, which was nominated for album of the year at the 1985 Grammys and featured the Grammy-winning songs What’s Love Got To Do With It and Better Be Good To Me.
The re-release also has other previously unreleased tracks, live performances and footage, including a 55-minute Private Dancer Tour show, with the Queen of Rock n’Roll filmed at Birmingham’s NEC across two nights in March 1985.
Directed by the music video director David Mallet, it features British star David Bowie and Canadian singer Bryan Adams at the concert.
The 5CD/Blu-ray also includes five upgraded music videos, with Private Dancer fully restored to HD from its original 35mm film.
There are insights from American songwriter Holly Knight, former Strictly Come Dancing judge Dame Arlene Phillips and The Human League star Martyn Ware in the liner cover.
Turner, known for her soulful hits and a commanding stage presence, was a two-time inductee into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, and won a total of 12 Grammy Awards.
A 1993 film, What’s Love Got To Do With It, dramatised her turbulent relationship with former husband Ike Turner, who was allegedly abusive along with her father, and earned Laurence Fishburne and Angela Bassett Oscar nods for playing the couple.
Turner was honoured with the prestigious lifetime achievement award in 2018 and three Grammy Hall of Fame awards for her hit songs.
In May 2023, she died aged 83 in Switzerland – where she lived with her second husband, music producer Erwin Bach – after a long illness.
Theatre production Tina: The Musical, depicting the late singer’s life on her journey from her humble beginnings into a rock ‘n roll star, began in the West End in 2018, and has continued to have performances in London.
Her anniversary record comes out on March 21.
The track will be heard on the BBC Radio 2 Breakfast Show with Mark Goodier on Thursday.
