BELFAST businesswoman Sharon McCue has become the first chair of the new European Board of Accountants.

Ms McCue, who works at the Northern Ireland Ambulance Service Trust, has been elected inaugural chair of the Association of International Certified Professional Accountants (AICPA) Europe Board and awarded the Chartered Institute of Management Accountants (CIMA) Silver Medal.

The award is recognition of her outstanding contribution to her professional body.

Sharon McCue started her career on the CIMA trainee accountant’s programme with Short Brothers and Harland Ltd, now Bombardier Aerospace. She then headed up a government-funded initiative to stimulate the emerging software industry before joining the public sector to embed management accounting in local Government. She is currently Executive Director of Finance and ICT for the Northern Ireland Ambulance Service Trust.

The AICPA is the global body for accountancy professionals recently established to represent the combined interests of CIMA and the American Institute of CPAs. It comprises 650,000 members and students worldwide.
